“A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just” -Pope Francis

In today’s society, mercy and compassion are seen as weaknesses, but it takes more strength to implement them rather than resort to violence. Rage is easy to spread. All of the social and political events happening currently have reactions that cause more hatred in the world. Especially with oppression, everyone is expected to fight with anger, but showing mercy and compassion will gradually make a change in an event.

Forgiveness is seen as an impossible thing to do nowadays, but that just shows how strong you need to be to forgive. On a social level with our friends, classmates, etc, forgiveness is not even an option most of the time. People are so self-entitled that they can’t even forgive a person they grew up with. Throwing shade is seen more than forgiving others. We never realize how short life is and when we will be able to forgive as well as be forgiven.

Standing up and defending with love and compassion gives a better image, especially for Muslims. With the constant negativity geared toward Islam, Muslims need to show love, mercy, and compassion to give the true image of Islam. Not only does mercy create justice in these events, but acting upon these characteristics gives Islam justice in the media.
