I grew up with parents who taught me to never talk to strangers on social media or in person because it’s very easy for people to depict themselves as this or that when it is entirely inaccurate of who they truly are. I was taught that social media was corrupt and was a place that promoted bad rather than good. However, as my social media team and I began to brainstorm ideas of what we would present to our followers, I came to the realization that social media is not what everyone pegs it for as it has its brighter side.

Social media is a platform for people to express themselves and it is mistaken for the opposite because humanity is lacking in valued attributes such as honesty, compassion, and mercy. Social media is not to blame; we are to blame. Social media gives each individual the opportunity to spread positivity through videos, pictures, messages, blogs, and so much more. Social media gives people the chance to interact with others who want to share the same positive message.

MIST gives us a great opportunity to do exactly this. MIST provides a strong motivation for our team to represent what truly matters. With that being said, the UAF Falcons present to you; #MercyRiseFalconRise. Considering MIST is a tournament for people all around the nation to compete, we tend to get caught up in all of it and forget that we should still maintain a respectful and merciful decorum as our Prophet (PBUH) taught us. The 2018 MIST theme is not only something we should revolve our MIST projects and presentations around; it is something we should revolve our lives around. Maintaining a merciful attitude is the basis of how relationships with the people around us can strengthen and the way we should treat our fellow MIST competitors. #MercyRiseFalconRise!!!
